It is very important that you register your pupillage as soon as possible with the Bar Standards Board (BSB), using the registration form which you can download at the link below. The completed form, when signed by your pupil supervisor, should be sent to the BSB. They will not register your pupillage without a signature from your pupil supervisor.
You should also complete our online survey via the second link below, to let the Education Department at Inner Temple know the details of your pupillage. This can be done at any point, even if your pupil supervisor is not yet confirmed.
The Bar Standards Board (BSB) requires all pupils to complete a pupils advocacy training course before commencing their 2nd six of pupillage. The Inn provides two courses each academic year. Course A takes place between October and November and Course B between January and February.
As part of the Inn’s Pupils’ Advocacy Training Programme we also deliver a one day Practice Management Course (PMC). The PMC is not compulsory but attendance is encouraged. The PMC usually takes place in January.
Those undertaking pupillage outside of London and the South Eastern Circuit would ordinarily complete a course offered by their Circuit, rather than at the Inn. Details of all Circuits can be found on The Bar Council website.
The requirement to complete a Forensic Accountancy Course during pupillage (or the first three years of practice) ceased in 2019.
The Inns library offers a range of training options for students, pupils and practising barristers.
It runs a legal research training course for new pupils each spring and autumn since 2013.
The date of the next session on legal research can be found on the Inner Temple’s Library webpage. The session will take place online via Zoom.
